Hyperchip
Hyperchip was facing the pains of an organization that had grown

was technology driven to one that was customer focused.
In addition, the organization
needed to begin to professionalize itself….to put into place the
essential processes that would permit Hyperchip to focus on
priorities providing the greatest business impact. Specifically,

Michel Salmon and Lumas Inc. assisted Hyperchip in bringing
about a transformational change in a way that conserved the core
elements of the Hyperchip culture we did not want to lose, such
as passion, innovation and being a great place to work. As a
result, Hyperchip benefited from one of the lowest attrition
rates in the industry. That low attrition rate was maintained
through good and poor industry conditions.
Michel and his team quickly set the tone and pace and made our
management team appreciate the fact that “HR is more than, pay,

process, Michel focused on maintaining the company’s viability.
Rather than approach the need to restructure as a reduction
exercise, Michel took a key leadership role in guiding Hyperchip
to “rebuild a new company”. From Michel’s assistance in the
planning and implementation process, Hyperchip was quickly able
to regain employee confidence without the company losing focus
on its priorities and delivery schedule.

Hyperchip – « A Solution to
Your Headache »
Upon my joining Hyperchip in early 2001, as with all my
executive management staff, Michel and I undertook a discussion
around the key business challenges faced by Hyperchip. It was a
pleasant confirmation to note that my top priorities coincided
with Michel’s diagnostic… all except for the order! What were
more convincing were Michel’s recommendations on two of the
challenges and a detailed proposal on a third that, with the
buy-in already secured from other members of the management
staff, permitted me to quickly tackle this delicate matter in
about a week rather than the traditional eight to twelve weeks
generally required when coming into a new role.
Throughout my association with Michel, he constantly
demonstrates an ability to find solutions to complex and
sensitive situations. His mind is alive! He seeks feedback from

Expectations
In a prior role, I received the mandate to put in place a Pay
Equity program including a detailed job evaluation of each
position, to be followed by a first ever compensation analysis
of our internal salaries against market benchmarks. A second
mandate was also initiated to implement a training plan in order
to ensure the company’s conformity with bill 90 (law to foster
the development of manpower training) and henceforth, to
identify potential projects eligible for subsidies via the
national training fund.
Having never worked on such initiatives, I met with Michel
Salmon in order to put in place a plan and a methodology that
would produce needed results while optimizing effort required in
completing the mandate.
M. Salmon has always provided me with judicious counsel, and his
practical experience makes it such that he is able to quickly
seize key challenges and subsequently transposes them into a
precise and executable plan. Furthermore, his able « coaching »
approach has resulted in my ability to deliver these projects
above expectations set by my internal clients while eliminating
many pitfalls that could have derailed the smooth progress of
the projects.
